The soft, concerned look she gave her threatened to bring tears to Beatrice's eyes. She averted her gaze to her lap. “I just... I need... I...” she stumbled over her words. Partly because she didn't know what she needed, partly because Ava rendered her speechless sometimes. Mostly because she knew what she needed and wanted, but would never have. Could never have.
“Please look at me, Bea.” Ava lifted her fingers tentatively, pressing right below Beatrice's chin and urging it up. “Whatever it is, it's okay. I've got you,” Ava assured her with a smile.
