Jayce gets a worrying text out of the blue from his former partner and rushes to be by his side. In other words: two ridiculously stubborn men realize how silly they've both been, and come to a new understanding of themselves and each other. There is also a cat.

It didn’t fucking matter, but that was fine. That was okay. They were fucking trapped there together, and John was going to make it work for the both of them if it killed him.
John is still trying to get used to humanity, to being a part of Arthur Lester. To making mistakes and paying for them. To being John Doe.

“Disco?” Healy raised an eyebrow. “What, like the queer music? You think the back room of that store is full of porn for… For disco fans.” He nodded thoughtfully a couple of times. “And you’re an expert about this?”
For a second the whole world went white around the edges and March thought he might pass out. He was too sober for this conversation. What exactly had Healy noticed that morning, how obvious exactly had his full-body reaction to Healy’s hand on his neck been? “I was a happily married man!” March said, and as soon as it came out of his mouth he knew it was wrong. Too fast, too high-pitched, too loud.

Grace noticed his new neighbor only had one change of clothes.
The young man was always wearing the same faded white shirt. Not only that, but Grace also noticed his pallor and how his profile seemed to grow gaunter as time went on. And the last time they’d shared the elevator, he had been incessantly chewing on a toothpick, his gaze lost in the distance.
He couldn't help but feel concerned—perhaps because, in a way, the young man reminded him of his own students.
And Grace also thought he was being discreet with his glances, but when his neighbor suddenly turned toward him with a piercing stare, it was obvious he hadn't been.
"Do you have a problem with me?”

Summary
The arrival at Erid is a momentous occasion. Rocky is excited and thrilled. Ryland is overwhelmed. But the reunion is happy, beautiful, amazing.
Or that's what it should have been. Except Rocky gets hurt, Ryland is left to try and communicate with an alien planet, and everyone is scrambling to figure out how to do this. To Grace, this is incredible but also bittersweet - he got Rocky home safely with the taumoeba, now he just gets... to starve. To Erid, this is insane - how did Rocky show up in an alien spaceship with a child???
...
Ryland Grace is stuck trying to speak Eridian, immediately makes himself sound like a child, and Rocky's world and family scramble to help this strange pebble. Misunderstandings galore, alongside hurt/comfort and angst and fluff.
