“Oh, that’s He Xuan. He’s a regular.”
They’re on their break. Shi Qingxuan sips his coke through a straw, a small bag of chips open in his lap. The break room had been so crowded, so they’re sitting in the bath section, tucked near the back where the cheapest tub options are displayed. Shi Qingxuan sits atop a faux-marble countertop, and Xie Lian is sinking relaxedly into the boxy bathtub. His phone is in front of his face, a twizzler dangling from his lips.
“At first, I thought he was gonna hit me for telling him we couldn’t do the refund.”
Xie Lian snorts, good-naturedly. “He Xuan is as harmless as a butterfly.” He bites off a piece of the twizzler, then takes the rest from his mouth, spinning it between his thumb and forefinger. “He’s just a little...eccentric.” Shi Qingxuan thinks that’s a charitable opinion, but he doesn’t say so. Xie Lian slides his phone into the pocket of the gaudy orange apron that’s a part of their uniforms. “Anyway, manager says we should give him refunds when he wants them. No matter what state he’s bringing things back in.”
“Why?” Shi Qingxuan asks, baffled.
Biting off another piece of candy, Xie Lian shrugs. “Maybe she’s got a soft spot for him, I dunno.”

“Are you planning to pay off an eight-figure debt with this job and a host job?” Mobei Jun asks, and Shang Qinghua almost wants to throttle him. Though, if his wallet didn’t have a direct funnel to his dad’s bank account, Shang Qinghua might actually have been a little comfortable.
“That’s not what I meant!” Shang Qinghua huffs, his head still spinning. As far as being a married man goes, Shang Qinghua is nowhere near ready.
“What?” Mobei Jun raises a single eyebrow. “Were you looking to marry for love?”

Their first meeting goes terribly. It just goes downhill from there. Until it doesn’t.
