Jose lifts the mug to his lips and takes a tentative sip– he lets out an appreciative hum, and Kevin softly sighs out a breath he didn’t even realize he was holding.
Taking another, bigger sip, Jose then lowers the mug and catches Kevin’s eye. “I think I’ll definitely come around again,” he muses with a tilted smile. Kevin perks up.
“So you liked that one then?”
“Oh, the drink is good too.”

Norton frowns. "It's dangerous, Subedar, you don't run the shop so I–""'Don't want to put that responsibility on you.' Okay, white knight, go on. I know." Naib appears again, pushing Norton out of the doorway. Norton attempts to protest, but it's firmly shut in his face.
Soon, Norton is alone, but he hears a small whisper in the back of his head before he truly starts his journey.
" ...be safe, okay?"

"Alright, detective. Don't cause a mess while we're gone, alright?" Ronald winks, Kroto rolls her eyes, and they're gone in a hurry. Inference is mostly sure it's because Ronald wants to get back as soon as possible.
He hears Ronald's voice fade outside as they walk away. "So, catch me up to speed before…"
With the shut of the door, the detective is by himself in Ronald's apartment for the first time. So, Inference does what Inference does best.
He snoops around.

“Cheshire?”
The Cheshire Cat is still in his humanoid form, lounging in midair as if he was lying on a sofa, one hand holding his head. He waves one paw in the air and the crisp crack of magic fills the room. The package in front of Norton shines momentarily before dispersing into blue particles. The particles reform into about six small, blue cats who all take off through the shop door, going straight through it with their incorporeal form.
Norton sighs. “That’s the last of the orders for today.”
“About time.” Norton watches as Cheshire’s entire body stretches out once, and then quickly shrinks in on itself, turning him into his cat form.
He floats down towards Norton and winds himself around his neck, a bit like a well-fitting scarf.
OR
Just Norton running his magical store with the help of his familiar, the Cheshire Cat.

Flower vomiting disease. A disease in which one who suffers from unrequited love dies from flowers growing inside their lungs. They block the airways, causing the victim to die from asphyxiation. It's completely fictional, only seen in literature, because obviously flowers wouldn't be able to grow inside a human body...
So why, oh why, was he, Naib Subedar, vomiting marigolds into his bathroom sink?

Summary
Kevin stared at the empty hallway long after Baden was already gone, because he couldn’t bring himself to chase after him. And despite that, his legs didn’t seem to want to move, to carry him the other way either. Kevin had gotten what he wanted, vented at the first officer a little, and now Baden was mad at him. So now he just stood there, and he couldn't help but feel that he deserved it.
A match ends in the survivors' victory, but Kevin is upset with Jose for being too reckless. He goes to find him to confront the other survivor about his hasty decisions, but things spin a little out of control.

Jose Baden pretends he doesn't know as many of the rumors as he does about his eyes and how they don't match his parents', scorning the way it makes people view his mother. The cowboy chasing after his fate and the First Officer to the Queen trying to run from it.
Soulmate AU in Victorian setting. Loosely based on 1800's England, though the locations are purposefully vague and not meant to explicitly correspond to real places. Slightly canon divergent character backgrounds but heavily inspired by them.
