Two things stay the same, but more things change. Most notably, Jack Kelly does not grow up to become the leader of the Manhattan Newsies, because when Jack Kelly is seven years old, he is adopted by Joseph Pulitzer in a gesture of goodwill and (hopefully) positive publicity. Katherine Pulitzer does not grow up the only daughter of a powerful, distant father; she grows up the older sister of Jack Kelly Pulitzer.
