Summary
“Interesting,” Carlos mutters to himself as he watches the ooze melt into liquid, turn dark red in hue, and produce an odor like that of pennies. He has never muttered the word “interesting” to himself as much as he does nowadays, in his daily labor to unravel the intricate knot of Night Vale. But it is a fitting word: Night Vale’s phenomena pique his interest, are worth being considered and understood completely. If he studies each grain of sand to completion, one day, he can say he knows the beach.
In which nothing in Night Vale scares Carlos except for Cecil.

Summary
Asra stops every 50 paces or so to inspect shells embedded in the sand. The ones he likes, he holds in front of Faust’s snout for her inspection. The ones she likes, he tucks into a side pocket of his satchel. Most are fragments of the whole shell, their sibling pieces scattered into the endless sea, much like Asra’s unsavory memories of his time on Ash Beach. Most, he chooses to discard, forget.
He lags behind to run his fingertips along one of the old pine pillars supporting the boardwalk. There is an image carved into the wood here. It appears to be a long tube with a triangle at the end, but the carver’s intention was to depict a snake. Asra’s left hand remembers.
“Do you resent this place?” asks Julian, neutrally. He shifts his weight from foot to foot.
Asra trails his fingers down, catching them on a few blunt splinters of wood before he shoves his hands in his pockets. A silence hangs in the air, cut through only by the peaceful rolling of the waves.
“...I feel nothing at all.”
In which Julian’s heart gets broken, and Asra’s splits in two.

"You hath thit o' your fath," Ash mutters through his sandwich, unlocking their hands and scooting backwards half a foot for good measure. (It'll take just short of a miracle to accept he's worthy of Eiji. Baby steps.)
"Say that again?" A bewildered smile replaces Eiji's sympathetic one.
Ash leans over again to wipe his sticky thumb on Eiji's bare collarbone. "You had shit on your face."

Xie Lian breaks down Hua Cheng's lips, which roam down his sternum, until they're dots and arches. He breaks down Hua Cheng's hands, tenderly tracing his waist, until they're squares and rectangles. He breaks down Hua Cheng's eyes, one clouded with blindness and the other with affection, until they're triangles and circles. He glances down at his own hips and thinks of them as the base of a pear.
It's all so beautiful, if he thinks of it like this. Just keep drawing shapes.

Seokjin’s yelling cuts loud and clear through the revving of the engines, even as he ducks to dodge a stray bullet that has flown too close to his ear.
“Why, you had plans other than getting dusted by these fuckers in the middle of nowhere?” Cherry Bomb yells back, twisting to shoot behind him, one hand wrapped around Neon Demon’s waist to keep his balance. Namjoon can hear him through the comms Yoongi has set them up with, but the echo still travels above the sound of them speeding on the road.
“Yes! I asked Beat Wave there out for drinks, and I’m still waiting for a confirmation—”
Seokjin’s indignant response is cut off by another gunshot, and Hoseok’s responding laughter rings through the comms from under his weird cartoon horse helmet. The Better Living vans that have been following them for a few hours now don’t seem to be slowing down, even as they get further and further away from the city and into a part of the Zones Namjoon knows none of them have ever been to before.
(Life in the Zones is difficult. Being chased through the Zones is even worse. But maybe, a chance encounter is all you need to build something new.)

Carlos's reaction to the first date involves a lot more anguished cries than Cecil's, though to be fair, they're only anguished cries of "Why did I do that, why did I say that, why am I allowed to interact with other people" so they're still better than at least eighty percent of Night Vale's late night wails.
