Summary
“So humans have these things called soulmarks,” Kris says.
“…soulmarks?” Ralsei asks.
Kris nods. “Soulmarks. The ‘first words your soulmate says to you,’ or something really fucking stupid like that, burned on your arm since birth. Monsters are normal. They don’t have that. They just—love people. But humans are so fucked they need a brand to tell them who to love.”
Ralsei frowns. “I’m—confused. Isn’t that…a good thing? Soulmates, I mean. To just—know who you’re going to love.” Ralsei’s known since before he can remember that he was going to meet the Heroes, that he was going to love them. And it was true! He wouldn’t give up Kris and Susie for anything. He’s not sure he’d be here, if he never had that fact to hold onto.
But Kris is glaring at him, and he cannot speak those final words aloud.
(or: Ralsei discovers a soulmate, a gender, and maybe, just maybe, a happy ending.)

Summary
“We should go on a road trip,” Kris says.
Ralsei blinks. Attempts to contextualize his surroundings: he is on the floor of Kris’s room. Various empty chip bags surround him. Kris is sprawled out at his side on their back. Their phone is balanced against a tissue box and currently playing a movie. Ralsei reaches out to pause it—Thelma and Louise. Right. He…remembers that. Halfway, at least.
Kris says, “oh, did I wake you up? Sorry.”
“No,” Ralsei says, “or, yes, or—I don’t know.” He pauses, swallows. “What were you saying?”
“Me. You. Road trip.” Kris nudges him. “I don’t care where. Just—away. You know? We’re adults. Nobody can stop us!”
Adults. Ralsei sure doesn’t feel it. Not here, in Hometown, where sometimes he has to catch himself, remind himself that yes, he’s safe here. That she won’t find him here. That he’s blocked her number and he has an entirely new one besides. That in four days, it’ll have been four years since he…
“Okay,” Ralsei says, and he takes Kris’s hand. “Road trip. Let’s do it.”

Summary
The silence in their bedroom stretched on for a few more long moments, punctuated only by Cloud's quiet breathing until he spoke again. "Remember back at Wall Market? When I… dressed up to get into Don Corneo's mansion?"
"Mhm," Tifa murmured, not quite sure where he was going with this. "How could I forget?"
"I think I might. Want to do that again," Cloud said, sounding as if he was physically forcing each word from his mouth. "Um. Just the part where I… where I dress up. Not Corneo."

Summary
The mattress sags beneath Aerith as she sits criss-cross beside Cloud on the bed. Gingerly, she reaches up and tucks away some of Cloud’s blonde hair behind her ear—the stupid extensions, she regrets keeping them now. “So,” Aerith whispers, “how would you like to do this, pretty girl?”
Cloud rolls out a shoulder, a nervous tick that feels slightly better than biting her nails in front of Aerith. “Um… I dunno,” she answers. Her cheeks are flushed. She hopes the sunset masks it. “You’re the expert.”
After Cloud realizes who she really is in Wall Market, Aerith helps her explore her identity with a makeover.
