Summary
"Frank?"
Frank doesn't seem to react. Ray blinks. Looks even more closely. The muscles in Frank's neck are pulled taut. He inhales through his mouth, exhales again. Slowly. Controlled.
Oh. Oh shit.
"Frankie. Hey. Can you hear me?"
For a terrifying fraction of a second Ray thinks that he again won't get an answer. Then, Frank nods a tiny nod. Okay. Okay, good. Ray can work with this.
"Panic or pain?"
Frank shrugs. His eyes squeeze shut, cheeks scrunching a little, and there's another controlled and even slower inhale. Frank holds his breath (one - two - three - four - five - six - seven seconds) and then exhales through his teeth with a small whooshing sound. His eyes open again.
"Both," he rasps out.
or frank always manages his pain on his own. ray wants him to know that he is allowed to ask for help.

Summary
There's a weird dichotomy living inside of Patrick's brain, festering nasty.
He wants to wrap Pete’s head up in bubble wrap so that its sharp, broken edges can’t hurt him anymore. But also, simultaneously, he's filled with the incessant need to just pull over, grab him by the shoulders, and single-handedly shake the misery out of him. There’s only so much frustration he can let go into the air whenever Pete’s problems surface, because of course it’s Pete at the center of this whole thing. This is Pete’s world; he’s just living in it.
(the ship is sinking, pete slips, if only things were as simple as duking it out in front of the taco cabana)
