After the ceremonial duel, Atem is given the unexpected gift of staying in the modern world. With his friends relieved and overjoyed, they all celebrate in Cairo before heading back to their hotel. The night starts with good-natured fun—Jounouchi pushing Yugi to drink more than he should, Anzu and Honda laughing at Atem’s bewilderment over modern cocktails, and Atem himself—normally so in control—loosening up for the first time in millennia.
Yugi, still overwhelmed by everything, finds himself alone with Atem after the group disperses for the night. They’re tipsy, nostalgic, and caught in the strange mix of relief and tension that has been simmering between them since the duel. One moment leads to another, and neither of them stops to think before they fall into bed together.

And he especially didn't expect his new 'friend' to have some hangups about a past relationship. Hangups bad enough that even just being in the same room as his ex makes Yami spiral. Luckily, Bakura knows how to provide a distraction.
