I still heard her voice as she said it to me. I heard it as a wolf, whispered in the breeze that blew through the treetops. I heard it in every step I took across the forest floor. Even as a human, I heard it just beneath the screech of metal as I tried to lose myself in an endless stream of modifications that barely made any difference.
