Summary
The important part is that these woods aren't in the domain of any gods. I mean, yeah, there are those fundamental force-of-nature ones that are connected to everything, but those ones haven't been involved in any conflicts since the really early times, before I existed. The point is, this isn't normal god territory and it isn't anyone's specific domain. I really did my research this time.
Which is why it spooks me so much when the wind carries a whisper to my ear: You were lucky.

What have you brought me, little familiar? ART rumbled in our heads — both of our heads, given the way Mensah flinched and moved closer to me.
I understood the impulse but I wouldn't be much help if ART did decide to harm us. ART was a huge silver-blue dragon, with teeth like swords and eyes like water wheels. I was just an arcane construct working outside my designation.

I felt my face twist involuntarily and took 1.7 seconds to compose myself, keeping my reaction out of the feed and biting back a remark that would certainly not help me get the bot to trust me. When I'd called it a pet robot, I honestly thought I was exaggerating.
Bots did not have soulmates. Constructs did not have soulmates.

Murderbot sets off to investigate and finds itself trapped, held hostage by a mysterious augmented human with no idea where it is, why, and how it's going to get out of this. To make things worse, it's supposed to deal with having emotions about things on top of all this? Real things, not just Sanctuary Moon? Ugh.
