Summary
Giyuu Tomioka opens his eyes. He is disoriented at the sight and sound of the forest around him. He looks down at his hands, they're much smaller and softer than his own. Where is he? Has he died? Is this a dream?
He jumps and spins around as he hears the bushes rustle behind him. A boy with peach colored hair and calm lavender eyes looks back at him from between the trees. "Come on Giyuu, I've been looking for you everywhere! Let's go train!" The boy says, outstretching his hand to Giyuu.
'Sabito?' Giyuu thinks to himself, his chest tight and his eyes wide. He feels his breath caught in his throat.
"What is it? Come on you look like you've seen a ghost!" Sabito says, his hand still outstretched to Giyuu who is still sitting on the ground.
Giyuu takes his hand, still staring at him in awe. Is he back with Sabito again in the past? Can he change his fate? Can he save his friend? Or well, is he just a friend?

Summary
Tsutako Tomioka and Sabito Tenko are spirits, but their afterlives couldn’t be more different. Tsutako is a reikon, content and at rest, while Sabito is a restless yūrei, lingering with unfinished business. Fate, however, has returned them both to haunt Giyuu Tomioka, the emotionally closed-off Water Hashira. The catch? Giyuu doesn’t notice. He’s too busy with demon-slaying to realize his two dearly departed companions are right behind him, offering unsolicited advice, muttering sarcastic remarks, and making passive-aggressive comments as though they’re his invisible roommates.
Meanwhile, the other demon slayers can see Tsutako and Sabito, who bicker and hover around Giyuu like it’s normal. Naturally, they start speculating about Giyuu’s strange behavior, slowly uncovering the mysteries of his past. To Giyuu, life goes on unchanged—he slays demons, broods, and wonders why people keep giving him funny looks. Unaware of his ghostly companions’ interference, Giyuu’s world is anything but ordinary, though he’ll never know it until it’s too late.

“Giyuu-kun? Is that really you?”

He turned to face her, and what she saw made her blood run cold.
Giyuu's eyes—once deep, round pools of blue that looked like a calm ocean—were now sharp, vertical slits, glowing with an unnatural light.
Aoi's heart pounded in her chest, the realization crashing over her like a wave. The man who had fought so valiantly to protect them, who had refused to give in even when the odds were against him... was now one of them.
"No..." she whispered, her voice trembling. "It can't be..."
But the truth was undeniable. Giyuu was no longer human.
He was a demon.

Defecting was easy, but it wasn't hard to lay low either.
It was a bit comical, the former second strongest demon who used to strike fear on demons and humans alike, who had killed and claimed thousands of lives in his centuries of living, now merely goes around small towns he had burrowed himself into, helping countless people with their daily concerns and labor.
Little did he know, the entire trajectory of his life would be thrown in a different direction once he meets the current Water Pillar.

Once he crawled in, it was usually simple to fall asleep. He would sleep deep and for long, with no pauses until the attendants of the Water Estate woke him for dinner, where he would eat just a little of it before going out to slay demons.
Or at least, that was what he usually did.
“Giyuu-san! Won’t you join the training?” Tanjiro’s voice was only slightly muffled by the shoji doors. “Training!”

Summary
Giyuu is really nothing more than a seat warmer for a more competent water pillar to come along someday.
When he saw Tanjirou wield his family’s axe and defend his sister, he saw potential. In the short amount of time he spent observing Tanjirou, he saw many things in him. Kindness so genuine it took him aback; concern for others that made the world a little sunnier; and a sense of justice so strong it reminded him of a boy with peach hair. Tanjirou was strong, and he would only become stronger as he grew. He would make a great pillar one day, with some years of training and experience under his belt.
But if all his years spent as not only a hashira, but also as someone who was raised in a world where demons attack the innocent, it had taught him one thing and one thing only— the world was dangerous for kind people.
The idea of giving Tanjirou his spot as a pillar of the demon slayers organization makes him slightly nauseous.
Tomioka Giyuu, if he played a more active part in helping the Kamado siblings after he spared their life.

Summary
The last thing Giyū saw was the horrible creature known as Muzan crawling away to another part of their quickly crumbling world, taking the hashira who could still fight with him, and the bodies of those who no longer couldn't, behind him. Giyū was the latter, trying to stand up even through the sea of blood at his feet. He was dying.
Why was this happening? Wasn't the slayer mark supposed to boost his survival?
Turns out, it did. Maybe a little too well.
Fate had once again chosen the wrong person to save, Giyū thought, back in his thirteen year old body, staring at his dead childhood friend right in the face. Tanjiro would have been so much better at time travel.
