Second time, Jason is dead, and Bruce just needs to feel anything to know he is still alive.
Third time, the Javalin is stuck in a time stasis bubble. The equivalent of two years is too long to resist.
The fourth time, they're just glad to be alive. They mean more to each other than they ever thought they would, but they have duties and obligations and they can't get out.
The fifth time is the worst yet. Bruce's fiance has left him. Clark's wife and son are just downstairs. This is painful, this is wrong. It needs to come to an end.

Summary
It took Bruce a long time to trust Superman. The man was an alien with god-like powers—if he ever decided to take over the planet, who could stop him? So, sue Bruce for not believing Superman was genuinely good, saving humanity for purely unselfish reasons.
But it wasn’t years of working together that changed Bruce’s mind. It wasn’t even Superman revealing his secret identity as Clark Kent, though that had softened Bruce considerably.
What finally broke through Bruce’s wariness was something small.
A joint mission in Gotham.
Or, Bruce finally lets go of his fear and decides to trust Clark completely.

Bruce nodded. “Exactly. It also doesn’t create new thoughts or makes you feel anything new. It just removes the reasons you don’t act on what’s already there.”
Clark was quiet for a moment.
Then: “Oh,” he said softly. A glint sparked behind his eyes. “Well then.”
He moved.
In one fluid step, he closed the distance between them.
Or, Clark is hit with red kryptonite for the first time, and Bruce has to deal with a version of him that doesn’t know how to lie, hesitate… or hide what he wants.

Bruce rested his glass on the bar, rolling the stem lightly between his fingers. “I had business here in the city. Dinner ran late. I didn’t feel like going straight up to my room, so… here I am.” His gaze flicked back to Clark. “What about you? You don’t strike me as the type who spends nights alone in hotel bars.”
Clark hesitated, then huffed a laugh that was more self-deprecating than amused. “Honestly? I had a pretty lousy day. My friend Lois is always telling me I’m a goody two-shoes, that I never do anything impulsive. She’s not wrong. I pass this hotel all the time on my way home and always thought about stopping in. But I’d talk myself out of it—too expensive, not my scene. Tonight I figured, screw it. Why not?”
Bruce studied him for a moment, then allowed a small smile to tug at the corner of his mouth. His voice was low, even, but there was no mistaking the sincerity.
“I’m glad you did.”
Or, Bruce meets a gorgeous man at a bar, tastes his first strawberry daiquiri, and the night turns out better than he ever expected.
