“Wait, what did you say?” Will realized Hannibal had been speaking, for how long was anyone’s guess. He focused his gaze on Hannibal’s mouth, the man’s lips slightly tilted up in a smug smirk.
“I was just inviting you to dinner, Will.” And, because nothing could ever be simple between them, he continued. “With myself and Alana. Next Tuesday evening.”
Will counted the days in his mind, frowning at the realization it brought him to. “That’s Valentine’s Day. Wouldn’t you rather keep your romantic dinner with Alana a bit more intimate?” He bit back the words he wanted to say, threatening to drip from his teeth like venom. “I won’t be a third wheel.” He managed, only barely containing the throb of pain buried beneath his anger.
“If you’d feel more comfortable you’re welcome to bring someone to round out the gathering.”

Will stands in front of the cork board, nearly a dozen slips of paper pinned to it with pushpins in outlandish colors and shapes. Only Price could throw a party as gaudy and over-the-top as himself.
Or, well, Will supposes Hannibal Lecter is sort of the god of lavish parties.
“What’s the phrase – penny for your thoughts?” Hannibal appears at Will’s elbow as though summoned by his passing thoughts. It isn’t the first time Will wonders whether Hannibal might have a touch of deeply buried empathy himself. Or if it’s just Will’s thoughts he seems to read with ease and aplomb.
And deadly results.
If Hannibal Lecter gave Will a penny for his every thought, he thinks even the great and disgustingly wealthy count might go bankrupt.
“Just taking in the noble goals of the FBI’s finest,” Will murmurs sardonically, eyes flitting through the laughable resolutions for the new year.
Lose ten pounds.
Give up coffee.
Gym twice a week.
Travel more.
Tell him how I feel about him.

He does mull over what to type out once the blank screen is presented to him. It must be something enough to stand apart from the flood of messages this particular fox no doubt receives; enough to warrant a response back.
