    Moreover, he was impossibly ill-prepared for the dizzying experience of being Shane Hollander’s boyfriend. Because Shane was turning out to be a really good boyfriend, the kind that quietly handled expensive restaurant checks, the kind that made soup when he was sick and held open his coat for him.

    The look on Ilya's face is hard to read. Cautious, maybe. Interested, almost certainly. "Curious?"

    "Kind of? Not like…" He trails off for a moment, unsure. "I don't want to top. I don't really know how to explain it. It's just like… I know your body really well." Which is true. Their bodies have always had a shared language. It's the talking part that's a muscle that could still use some work, though it's stronger than it used to be. "And there's this part of you that I don't know. I guess I just wonder if you think that's selfish of me."

    The NHL keeps a Central Registry of every team’s Emergency Backup Goaltender, or EBUG, an individual who must be prepared to play for either the home or visiting team should both goalies be taken out of commission. When the Registry was digitized in the mid 90’s a clerical error was made, and David Hollander has remained on file as Montreal’s EBUG. When Boston plays a preseason game in Montreal at the beginning of the 2017/2018 season, both of their goalies are taken out and David Hollander suddenly finds himself in the net in Boston black and yellow.
