Summary
“Why you do that?”
Shane looked up, a furrow in his brow. “What?”
Ilya’s face hardened. “Break yourself for people who do not build you back up, is stupid.” He turned to the rink. “You’re going to kill yourself on the ice for people who do not care, Hollander, and Good Canadian Boy image will be all you are known for, is bullshit.”

Shane loved hockey; hockey was his life, and there’s nothing he wouldn’t do to play for the rest of it. Even if it cost him his mind, body, and soul.Ilya loved hockey; hockey got him away from the people draining his life away, and he’d rather face loneliness than his family’s negligence.
But love could only do so much, and perhaps their perception of it was skewed. Because torturing yourself to get that ounce of love, isn’t going to get the love you deserve. It gets you a mirage that will one day disappear, leaving you with a shell of yourself you don’t recognise anymore.

Summary
“Ilya is my best friend. There is no rivalry. At all. The media can spin whatever they want, but that’s not who we are. He will always be my biggest fan, and I will always be his. There’s no animosity between us and there never will be. End of story.”
——
The media wanted a bitter rivalry. Instead, Shane and Ilya gave the league the finger and became inseparable, obnoxiously affectionate best friends. And maybe, unbeknownst to them, stupidly in love too.
As the microscope and pressure of the league increasingly suffocate Shane, he must also now navigate love and a relationship underneath it. But when targeted violence shatters their world in a single night, Shane is forced to confront the traumatic grief of the golden boy he used to be, his sanctuary turning into a cage, and the painful freedom of change — leading to a journey of healing, self-discovery, and a choice that shocks the world.
(No one dies or is permanently injured, I promise. Guaranteed HEA.)
