Guy suddenly realizes that he’s still got his arms wrapped around the back of Jasper’s neck. He starts ever so slightly but Jasper’s hand at the small of his back tightens, stays him. Guy swallows hard, his gaze searching Jasper’s face. Up close, he sees more of Jasper’s age, the lines around his mouth, the crow’s feet at his eyes, marks of years lived. Jasper has kept well, handsome, dignified, but even by the kindest of measures, he is still more than old enough to be Guy’s father.
“Do you still like what you see?”

Guy already knew: the confirmation doesn't make it any less frightful.
There is something in this church.
He can feel it the moment he steps out of the car, walking the path through the modest cemetery leading to the church's entrance. Past the heavy set of doors that swing open with an eerie creak, his eyes looking up towards the altar and the large wooden crucifix hanging behind it. In the shadows that the benches and the angles of the arched roofs project over the marble floor, trembling in the light of votive candles. Almost like a whisper, a background buzz that could pass for the wind battering the building, were it not for how human-like it sounds.
Guy is but the Lord's humble servant; who else but the one looking after the flock could protect it from the maws of the wolf?

Jasper has been running a quiet New York dive-bar for two years when a certain lawyer-turned-professional-partier Guy Anatole makes it his regular haunt for decompressing after work. It isn't a place for vampires; ironically, despite the nature of the solitary old-timer working behind the bar, it isn't a place for the supernatural at all.
But one night Guy professes his unhappiness over his career, and Jasper offers him a job.

Summary
“Do I have your attention?”
Jasper thinks about that moment a lot, more so these days. The truth is that Guy had his attention before then, from moment one. The pup with his cup, outside a place he didn’t belong, doing work he shouldn’t be doing, roped into a world vastly beyond his knowledge and understanding. Some would say Guy was damned from that moment on. Jasper prefers to blame it on the Talamasca, Helen roping this poor boy into the mire.
Or perhaps Guy was doomed at birth, and if that were the case, then so was Jasper. It’s befitting cruelty, that it should take a century for Jasper to play catchup, so their fates could properly intertwine.

He moves the spoon, tilts it just a fraction, and watches in aeons-slow motion as the light glides through it, like liquid or some secret, fourth state of matter. No, fifth. Plasma is a thing. Is this plasma?
“No, babydoll, it’s not plasma,” Jasper replies with a wry smile, and oh, Guy must still be talking.
Armand gives a curt little sigh.
“Well, this is a horrifying glimpse into what could have been,” he says in a voice like polished glass, then looks at Molloy. “I was right not to turn you in the ‘70s, feel free to officially admit this at any time.”
“Jesus, he’s gonna be fine, it’s a temporary high!” Jasper groans, throwing his head back, then lifts it again to look at Armand. “It’s already fading, on night one he was so loaded he couldn’t walk straight. Trust me, I know what I’m doing. Not like I was a virgin when I did him. No offence.”

Post-season 1, after Jasper escapes Amsterdam and Guy is dragged back into the Talamasca, they continue to meet in secret when they can.

His hair is shorter (curious, that), shadows under his eyes darker than they used to be. He looks sharper. He’s focused, more precise, whittled after the year-or-so that he’s probably been on the run. Jasper is aware of the exact distance between them, the corridor of it; the want is suddenly almost audible, a roar in his ears, a string stretched between them.
