Irony is defined as the wry humour one derives from finding the differences between what life is and what life should be.
Levi figures he's at that point where the situation ceases to be humourless and starts to become despondent. But when the whispers get too loud for him, Eren squirms and mutters in his sleep and he can drown them out for a few hours longer.

Summary
Eren Yeager is a vampire who wishes he was still human. He wants to hang out with his friends, go out into the sunlight, and eat his favorite foods, just like anyone else. But he can't. So someone has to teach him how to survive as a vampire. But Eren's not exactly sure what makes Levi volunteer to be that teacher. He doesn't know why Levi knows so much about vampires when he himself is a human. Levi knows so much and Eren knows so little, and every day they spend together makes Eren more and more curious about him. But this curiosity and the flustered, erratic fluttering in his chest whenever Levi is near has to be because he's a vampire. It's not a crush or infatuation—it's just more freaky vampire bullshit. It has to be.
