Summary
“You were ready to die to kill me”, he said. His face was impassive, but there was something in his voice that sounded like admiration.
“What do you want?” I wheezed. I could feel the tears streaming down again. The Darkling reached towards my face to wipe them away. It brought me satisfaction to see that his movements were almost as labored as mine.
“What I always want”, he said softly. “To save the Grisha. To protect Ravka. You.”_
At the end of Siege and Storm, Alina Starkov is captured at the Little Palace after she tries to kill the Darkling. She is alone among enemies, while her allies are scattered and her powers weakened by her battle with the Darkling. With her body and spirit beaten down, she finds comfort in the budding friendship with her jailer Natasha. With the newfound feelings she has to face an uncomfortable truth: there are good people fighting for the Darkling. How can she destroy him without destroying them?
This is my attempt to fix everything I disliked about Ruin and Rising, and also to give Alina some much needed female friendships (and sapphic feels).

Summary
He would bend the fabric of reality itself. That was how strong his will was. He’d once promised Helena that if something happened to her, if he couldn’t have her, he would raze the entire Order of the Eternal Flame. He would do so much more. Burn this entire country to the ground, if that was what it took to get her back. His family crest flashed through his mind: the ouroboros of a dragon in perpetual self-destruction.
His love for her could fill the skies themselves. And if the gods would not make the heavens move, then he would go through hell once more to find her.
