You test the ropes wrapped tight around your torso, partly to check what you're dealing with so you can prepare for your escape, mostly to know how firmly he'd tied the knots. Very, and you don't know what it means that you find that reassuring. Even, dare you say it, comfortable. Not so tight it impairs your breathing, not so loose you could slip out without trying. As it should be.
That he can strike that balance every time is a testament to his skill. Everything about his schemes, from the trap, to the monologue, to the careful placement of the self-destruct button, seems designed to challenge you, demanding your best.
