Summary
When an allergic reaction to a bee sting leaves Kara in the hospital, the only thing distracting her from the searing pain in her side was a mountain of pillows and more morphine than she probably needed…. And a doctor with unforgettable green eyes and an addictive smile that managed to leave Kara looking forward to the nights she'd get to see the woman again. She didn't expect the doctor to be as sweet as she was, and she definitely didn't expect to get the doctors phone number just before being discharged.
Kara certainly didn't expect to find herself wondering how she was going to make a relationship with a doctor who had an impossible schedule work.

One second she’s flying down the long hallways, nose deep in her packet of papers, and the next she’s frantically reaching a hand out to try to prevent the woman she just barreled into from falling to the ground… which, of course, doesn’t work out too well, because Kara’s on her knees straddling a stranger in the middle of a busy hallway.
“I—oh gosh, I’m—I am so sorry!”She didn't encounter the woman again until a week later when she was walking down the hallway, her daily outline for her class in hand. A flash of familiar jet black hair suddenly appeared in front of her, and Kara reached out for a hand and felt herself being pulled to the ground. It was by sheer luck that she stepped forward with one foot and grounded herself, pulling the woman close to her instead of falling on top of her… again.

Kara ducked her head, fiddling with her glasses. It was a subtle tick Lena had come to associate with Kara being nervous, and Lena watched the bob in Kara's throat as the blonde swallowed, "Well, I'm no Supergirl."
"No, you're much more."

When the guilt of inadvertently giving children led poisoning becomes too much, Lena calls Sam out to a girls night out at a club to get drunk and forget about the pain for just one night. She has a little bit too much and Sam calls none other than Kara Danvers to help get the drunken Luthor back to her apartment. Lena wakes up on her couch to Kara taking care of her, ultimately telling Kara about her large amount of guilt that's been building up over a lifetime, and things get sappy. Lena gets flustered a little too easily and ultimately ends up pressed against a wall.

The mechanic isn’t just pretty – she’s muscular. And sweaty. And broad. Her shoulders are wider than they look at first glance, and as she reaches up to remove her hat and wipe at her brow with her forearm, Lena can see her bicep flex.
Lena tries very hard not to be affected by that, or by the adorable red line the ball cap leaves on the woman’s forehead.
“Hi! I’m Kara. James said your Porsche gave out?”

Needing to get away from the stress of her job for a few months, Lena buys a summer lake house in the most remote town she can find. She fully intends on keeping to herself, resting, and interacting as little as possible with the locals.

Summary
It's been twenty-one years since Lena let Kara sit down at her table, twenty since Kara had almost died, and fourteen since the birth of their second daughter. Despite their ups and downs, they've been happier than Lena could ever have imagined, but even the scars of the past hurt sometimes, and life can't be wonderful all the time. Juggling work, marriage and motherhood hasn't been easy, and with some problems and ghosts coming back to stir things up, balancing things is harder than its ever been.
