When Hubert and Edelgard have an additional trusted ally, one who happens to have the Archbishop's eye for reasons unknown to them?In this AU, Byleth has been Edelgard's sworn blade for nearly a year, and Sothis has likewise been awake for about as long.

Summary
Mercenaries shouldn't get attached—that's the unwritten rule. It's been nearly three years since Shez lost everything to the Ashen Demon, and now she finds herself in the midst of all out war—and out of her depth. Meanwhile, Byleth’s resolve to not live up to her grim reputation is put to the test.
A pretty loose adaptation of the Scarlet Blaze route, followed by the conclusion and aftermath of the war, split between Shez's and Byleth's perspectives with additional character perspectives between each chapter. Has absolutely outgrown its title, but I went and got attached to it.
Lots of perhaps weird headcanon about dark magic, Zahras, slithery people, Shez's backstory and mom, relics, etc etc.
Complete through the events of Scarlet Blaze as of Chapter 28.

Summary
When the girl that Byleth had dreamt of finally woke up, she didn't know what she was expecting. She never could have expected her to be the dead ghost of a magic lizard person from space. Then there was her time powers, her visions of the future, possessions, crests, psychology, being a teacher, traumatised children, religion, and stopping wars, it was all a confusing mess.
At least the sex was fun, and Edelgard was adorable when she got embarrassed. That much she understood.

Three times...
Three times, Byleth has tried to save Fodlan from the rampage of Nemesis...
Three times... she failed.
No matter what she does... no matter what house she commands... no matter how she tries to go about it... Nemesis keeps winning. Killing all of her allies and friends...
Taking the ones she loves from her...
On the fourth loop, Byleth is ready to end it all, but a mysterious warrior named Shez from another timeline makes his way into hers. Wanting to help her, Shez offers her one last opportunity to save everyone and stop Those Who Slither in the Dark for good. Not long after... Sothis makes herself known again for the first time since the first loop, now wanting to help her technical great granddaughter anyway she can.
Giving this one more try... Byleth resolves to do whatever it takes to save Fodlan. Even if she has to give up everything to do it.
No matter what it takes.
Or: Byleth, with Shez and Sothis by her side, gives one last attempt to save Dimitri, Claude, Edelgard, every one of her students, Jeralt, Rhea, and Foldan itself and end Nemesis once and for all. But even Byleth wasn't prepared for what would come as a result of this choice...

Summary
When Arval awakens, so too does Epimenides. Rather than simply wait for his opportunity, he takes a chance to subtly influence his wayward vessel—and so Shez's need for vengeance becomes all-consuming. Byleth doesn't mind the frequent fights with an interesting opponent, but her new duties as a professor sometimes clash with her desire to continue teaching her rival.
Meanwhile, Edelgard is left very confused, and Hapi is bored in a lightless pit.
My take on a Shez-in-Three-Houses story, with perspectives split between Shez, Byleth, Edelgard, and eventually Hapi—along with other characters interspersed. Part one of an eventual three-part series. This part will conclude at the beginning of the timeskip.
