His next words come out with a stumble, and Charles has to ask him if everything is all right, so he shakes his head clear and tries to refocus.
It doesn't go away, though. Of course not.

Charles frowns down at it, the pain at his elbow momentarily forgotten. "Hasn't it always been like this?", he asks. It's a muddy hue, an indistinct and unremarkable circular shape.
His mom shakes her head no. "That's really special, you know? I'm sure your soulmate will love you very much".
Charles inspects the mark closer, feeling the skin of it with the tips of his fingers. There are no grooves, no difference in the texture at all. It could just be a big weird mole, for all Charles knows.

Sometimes, when they first arrive at the circuit for a weekend, Charles will look decidedly paler, a little drawn. Then, he'll show up for FP1 on Friday seemingly much better all of the sudden, eyes unnaturally bright and cheeks red - that's how to tell how long it has been since he last drank.
Not that Carlos notices. Or keeps track of it, for that matter.
Except he does.

“That’s cute,” Oscar was playing with fire. “Thanks for the offer, but I’ll pass.” Carlos let out a short, manic laugh.
“You know you’d beg for it,” he muttered. “You can’t get enough of me.” Maybe he couldn’t, but he certainly wouldn’t say that.
“I’ve always hated you, Sainz,” Oscar refuted. “Today was just the rude reminder why.”
OR: Oscar is in love with Lando, but there's one problem: he's an omega, and Lando is into alphas. Feeling bad, Carlos offers to help Oscar out. All seems well until they make a horrible mistake that may or may not involve two particularly well-placed bites.
