Summary
The first part of this Yu Yu Hakusho based epic opens as Airi, a sweet girl with a gruesome past, breaks free from the facility she’s been held captive in for the past 6 years. Looking for help from her childhood friends, she enters on the day of Yusuke's wake, and finds herself indebted to Hiei after he saves her life. His initial distaste for her eases when he realizes she is not the weak human he expected. Airi struggles with a crush as they learn to navigate their psychic bond, and when Kurama convinces Hiei to train her for the Dark Tournament, they begin to form an emotional bond as well.
She earns his trust after a traumatic event, and as he slowly drops his walls, she begins to fall in love. Even as they turn down a complicated and winding road, she never gives up, and is there for him when he needs it most. Part I wraps the day after the tournament, when the group is inevitably split up and forced to make a decision about what comes next.

"He's not going to hurt ya." Aiya glanced up at Gojo as he leaned down, getting in her face. "We won't let that happen, Sweetheart." He assured her, Geto's arm tightening around her shoulders.
The dark-haired man tilted his head down to kiss the top of her head. "There's already others securing him now." His deep voice was soothing as she curled farther into herself, trying to calm her racing heart.
Her breaths were staggered as she looked between the men. "I'm so sorry." She let out a weak laugh. "I didn't mean to drag you into this." Her chest ached as she buried her face into her knees again.
She flinched slightly as she felt hands in her hair. "See, that's our problem." Gojo's voice rang in her ears as Geto petted over her back. "No one's going to make our baby afraid of anything." He said, laughter lacing through his words. "Suguru's going to call Shoko to come sit with you while we take care of this little problem, okay?" Gojo prodded her, leaning forward to press his forehead against her head.
Geto's hand moved to wrap around her back. "We'll be home as soon as it's done." He mumbled, his thumb rubbing over her ribs.
