Summary
Steve Harrington is normal, everyone thinks so. Captain of the swim team, starter on the varsity basketball team, most popular boy in school, absolute heartthrob, handsome, and rich. He's King Steve, Steve “the Hair” Harrington. He's an all-American boy growing up in the heartland. And he's spent years working very hard to keep it that way, because the truth is the last thing he is, is normal.
No, Steve Harrington has a dark past he's desperate to escape, however that gets much harder when Will Byers goes missing and Steve just can’t shake the feeling that something is very wrong in Hawkins, something that's pointing straight to his past. But everything will be fine, right? All he has to do is pretend everything is normal.
Or, another lab experiment Steve story because I can’t get it out of my head, so I’m sharing it with everyone.

Read Ch 134
Ranked my #1 favourite fic of all time
*SPOILERS*
Favourite chapters:
- Ch 39: Post-S2 Steve lays out a perfect cover story and the Party sees a glimpse of how his mind works
- Ch 51: Steve and Kali party. Steve lets loose, has fun, gets drunk, shows up Billy and talks to Nancy
- Ch 68: Steve and Robin high on drugs during and after the Russian bunker
- Ch 71: Steve showdown with the Mind Flayer in the mall. "I was going to kill you, but now I think I want to keep you.”
- Ch's 73/74: Post S3 Owens showdown about custody in front of the Party. Threatens with Kali. Cathartic fight with Jon
- Ch 90: Terrifying Neil into leaving town for Max
- Ch 96: First interaction with Lucy Lindholm, his real mother, in the grocery store
- Ch 102/103: The kids find out he's Seven
- Ch 120: Mean girl Steve comes out again as he eviscerates Murray at the dinner table
- Ch 126: Reveal of being 007 to Owens
- Ch 133: Vecna lures Steve into a trap in the woods and taunts him with Max, making him burn outEvents changed from canon post-S4 so I remember plot:
- Everybody knows about Steve being 007 in the main cast (102). Steve told Owens to get information and to appease his old need for validation from the lab - to prove himself as not weak or diminished, like his file claimed (126). The parents also know about the Upside Down, but not about Steve/El/Kali having powers (or that Kali exists at all).
- Massive gate lines in Hawkins have opened (130) for all the monsters to unleash on the town. Democreatures have started killing civilians so the town will soon find out. Most Hawkins citizens have evacuated, and there is a large military presence unrelated to the lab, led by Lt Jack Sullivan who believes El has caused everything. Their goal is to kill Vecna in the hopes that killing him will destroy the Upside Down, as it's all a hivemind. Only Steve has seen him since the S4 finale (112) when he essentially set him up for a trap to personally attack him.
- Max is awake in hospital but her emotions aren't right due to Vecna "killing" her (~115) - he partially absorbed her soul/life force, which Steve saw when Vecna attacked him (133). Military interested in her.
- Eddie survived and is clear of all charges, with Steve framing Jason as the killer. Jason is still dead.
- Lucy Lindholm is Steve's biological mother that he accidentally got in contact with again, and she's been reaching out a lot. She has a feeling that he is her son (James). Steve is afraid to get close in case her family gets targeted.
- Steve and Nancy are back together after 1.5 years apart (since season 2). Nancy and Jonathan broke up few weeks before.
- Elisabeth and Richard are Steve's adoptive parents. Steve forced himself into the family when he escaped with powers but that's had bad long-term effects on his parents' psyche. They've now divorced after Elisabeth went to rehab. Elisabeth has left Steve the house.
- Kali broke Eleven out of the new lab, not Eleven doing it herself. She shot Brenner but he survived - hasn't been seen since yet. (113) -

Summary
“You ever tried to escape?”
Peter chuckled. “Yeah. Lots of times I end up back here, brink of death. Though, twice Tennison was so impressed he let me have extra dinner and no experiments the next day.”
“Wow, kiddo, living the luxurious life, huh?” it was astounding how quickly they’d fallen into a comfortable companionship.
“There was a guard who helped me once,” Peter’s smile dropped with his volume. “But he had to leave. They never found out he helped me. I was hoping…”
He trailed off and shook his head. “Well, I guess I’ll just have to hitch a ride with you when Captain America comes to bust you out, huh?”
Tony’s heart jumped. Oh, kid, if you knew just how much I wished for that. “Yeah, I guess I’ll let you come along. Only one stowaway allowed, though, you hear me? No weird mutated turtles or rats or something.”
Peter laughed again, and for a moment the cold cell felt warm.

Summary
The depth of anguish into which Spencer Reid falls after Maeve is murdered seems so profound that those around him aren't sure they can help him find purchase on solid ground to walk again. Then an abyss opens its maw, swallows him, and hides him within its shadowy bowels. It seems the grace of light will never be able to reach him.
And yet.

Bookmarker's Notes
My #7 favourite fic of all time
Potentially whumpiest fic I've ever read and yet doesn't feel like the author is just playing it for drama. Beautifully crafted. Better written then some published authors I've seen in book stores.
Plot notes for when/if book 2 ever releases: (lowkey copied from @mikimouse103's bookmark note)
- Spencer kidnapped by a couple, Lorraine and Russell McAllister, who lost their son, Kenneth, and were looking for a replacement. At least 6 other victims from the same couple, but he was kept the longest. Russell is a sexual sadist.
- Held for around a year before team solved case and found him. Severe stockholm syndrome due to the long period of very intense emotional and psychological conditioning and all types of abuse, even being mutilated with tongue cut off. Some of these punishments were BAD - like there's one in particular involving forced defecation via laxatives I haven't been able to forget from how insanely traumatising it would be to happen in real life.
- Shows signs of improvement after Henry visits and he gets a sleeping mask/earplugs - sleeping through the night and asking for baths, etc.
- Ch 45 is Spencer's perspective of his hospital stay. It started with him being very detached from his surroundings, believing everything to be hallucinations, and really, truly desiring to be back with his kidnappers because, despite the fact they abused him horrendously, he sees the routines as a twisted form of safety and dependability, and now his environment is unpredictable and (he believes) not real. His POV was fractured and loops between him wanting to go back, not believing he’s out and that it’s not some twisted form of punishment, and trying to talk himself into believing it. Ends with him agreeing to move for rehabilitation, but only ti try and escape back to the couple.
- Tapes exist of the whole captivity, and there is a team at the FBI assigned to watching them for evidence.
- Unfinished plot line of the Replicator ready to go for book 2. Mysterious little excerpt at the end of the second-last chapter showing someone accusing someone of snitching, and someone getting kidnapped? Maybe garrotted to death? -

The PTSD portrayal in this is top notch. A great introspective/missing scene piece that feels like it could've seamlessly been incorporated into the show.

Summary
Pain, Peter’s learned, is relative.
Subjective. Fleeting. Impossible to measure.
He knew from his biology classes that pain was less a feeling but more of a chemical— neurons traveling together and communicating. Brain synapses signaling to each other what is, what was, what will be.
Pain is intangible, objectively speaking.
Right up until the moment it isn’t.
