Summary
Kaveh ends up confessing to Alhaitham during a big fight before the architect leaves for a longterm desert project. Kaveh then meets an accident and is officially proclaimed dead by the Matra.
Two years later, the Traveler claims Kaveh is seen alive, in Fontaine, seemingly without a memory of who he is, living an entirely different life.

"I'm home!" Sing-songs Kaveh from the front door, as if Alhaitham wouldn't hear his key in the lock, or his sturdy, nimble footfalls on the warm wooden floors as he pivots barefoot into the study to deposit his briefcase and belongings, before stripping off his shawls. Alhaitham knows him by the low rustle of linen, the silky shhick of voile. He knows him by the warmth that radiates off his skin, by the tingle at the back of his own neck when Kaveh's eyes are on him.
Kaveh comes home to find Alhaitham crying. The unexpected occurs.
