There, his mind supplied, latch on to that! “I’m not a recruit,” Lucky sounded out and Seas, why can’t his mouth just get the memo already? He’s got this. He can still salvage this. Think. “Ah, well, not yet, at least,” he ground out and he’s got this. “O-or at least I want to be! I-uh haven’t exactly told anyone yet,” he added.
The other kid looked at him flatly, expression smoothing out neutrally. He looked like he did not believe Lucky and he couldn’t blame him, not really, when his lies flowed out like a badly-tuned violin. “Uh huh,” the kid deadpanned, “and yet, you’re somehow in the storage room of a guarded marine base in the New World. Sure.”
