So Kate does the logical thing. She has a black belt in five different martial arts. She’s a state champion fencer, and a world champion archer. She takes one look at the potentially dangerous home intruder sleeping in her bed, and she does what any smart person would do. Duh.
She whispers, “Oh, what the fuck,” turns around, promptly collapses on the couch in the living room, and falls asleep.
OR: Kate is a grad student at NYU. All it takes is a blonde with a habit of breaking and entering to change everything.

Kate’s eyes blur, her body is burning, and she’s not quite sure if her ears have always been ringing, or if the ringing just began.
She grunts, and just barely dodging Natasha’s next jab, stumbling back as she regains her footing.
Kate's chest is burning with humiliation, determination, and exertion from the fight.
She blocks a nasty kick aimed at her head with the outside of her arm, grits her teeth and seizes the opening she's given, lunging forward with all her might.
Her fist doesn't even get close.
Natasha moves like the Widow she is, whips her leg around in a perfect arc, and strikes Kate straight on her temple.
Her eyes blur and she barely registers the pain before her world tilts.
Kate's out cold before she even hits the mat.

Kate thinks she’s getting bullied by Natasha Romonoff, but can’t possibly understand why. Maybe it has something to do with the way Yelena looks at her when she thinks nobodies watching?

But it was only for a second, as Kate cut Natasha off with a loud “No! No way. I'm coming with you.”
Only for a second, then Yelena felt like she could breathe again.

Sonya's grin only widened as she sat up a little straighter, clearly enjoying Yelena’s discomfort. “Uh-huh," she said, her tone light but teasing. "Is that why you’ve saved her ass three times already?”
Yelena’s scowl deepened, her cheeks flushing with anger—or was it something else? “Shut up,” she growled, her voice lower now, though the tension in her body gave her away. The silence that followed was thick with unspoken truths, hanging between them like a weight Yelena wasn’t ready to acknowledge.
