Even though they occasionally go days or weeks without meeting, when Minghao reflects on it, it's rarely by Mingyu's doing. Minghao is usually the one turning down late nights or rearranged flights in favor of keeping his obligations in line. Mingyu texts when his calls go unanswered. He's always the first between them to deescalate arguments, too. He never stops inviting to Minghao to things even when he repeatedly says no.
"Yes."
"Then maybe you're the problem."
For the first time, Minghao has to decide if he will keep standing at the edge of something good or finally step into it.

Vi scoffed and stomped forward, the gravel crunching beneath her feet as she approached Caitlyn, who looked up at her with an empty, disinterested expression.
She stopped right in front of her, chest puffed out, voice dripping with venom.
“Good lord, Kiramman, maybe pace yourself for once. What’s the plan? Smoke yourself into an early grave so we don’t have to deal with you anymore?”
Caitlyn’s head jerked slightly, her features a cool mask of indifference.
“Though I am flattered by your concern," she said icily, taking a slow, deliberate drag from her cigarette, “I assure you that I am perfectly capable of handling myself, thank you very much.”
“Oh, yeah? Is that why you’re here?”
Caitlyn slightly perked one of her eyebrows. The look on her face made Vi immediately feel incredibly stupid and childish.
“No. I am here to smoke a cigarette. In peace. Why are you here?”

A coil of her pink hair—longer now, grown out since before the war—rests down the slope of her spine, swaying slightly each time she shifts. Caitlyn’s eyes follow it, hypnotised. She’d never known hair to be such a sensual thing until she’d felt Vi’s silky strands wrapped around her fingers, and now she longs to twine them through it as she drags Vi into a deep, lazy kiss just because she can.
