Summary
Steve Rogers is finally losing his mind.
He'd always been familiar with loss, and the grief that comes with it... What he wasn't familiar with was losing someone, then discovering they'd never really left, only to find out they technically had, then discovering they hadn't, and then losing them again. That, he'd never experienced. And, unfortunately for him, it seemed to be the straw that would finally end with his already poorly-cared-for sanity for good.
After returning to New York and trying to lead a normal life while the Avengers gathered information on HYDRA and the Winter Soldier's whereabouts, Steve began to catch glimpses of a disturbingly familiar pair of eyes amidst the now foreign streets and alleyways of the city.
They always vanished, of course. Right after he looked away or blinked. He had to learn very quickly not to get too worked up over things that weren't real.

“Ready to lose, Buck?” Steve said with a smirk as he leaned down for the face-off.
Bucky grinned back. “We’ll see about that, Stevie.”
A few hours later, after a 3-2 loss, Bucky wasn’t as jolly.
“Well, well, well,” Steve said, leaning on Bucky’s hotel room’s doorframe.
“Shut up,” Bucky growled, pulling Steve to him and starting to rip of Steve’s clothes.
Any snarky retort Steve had died on his lips as he crushed his mouth against Bucky’s.
