    Summary

"Go away, Childe," Aether said quietly.

    "Ajax."

    "I'm not calling you that."

"Why not? Afraid it'll make this too personal?"

"There is no 'this'!" Aether's voice rose. "There's you being obsessed with fighting me, and me trying to find my sister, and sometimes those things intersect, but that's all."

"Then why are you still standing here?" Tartaglia challenged. "Why didn't you summon your sword and force me to leave? Why are you arguing with me instead of walking away?"

Because Aether didn't have a good answer for that.

    ______

Aether probably shouldn't have come to Liyue.

    Bookmarker's Notes

« "Show me the scars first."
"Why are you obsessed with this?"
"Because I wasn't there!" The words came out harsh, almost angry. Tartaglia's grip tightened fractionally. "Because you went to natlan and fought archons-know-what, and I wasn't there to watch your back, and now you're standing here covered in new scars that I didn't see you earn." »

    /

« “There he is," Tartaglia gasped when they broke apart for air. "There's my Traveler."
    "I'm not yours-"
Tartaglia flipped their positions in one smooth movement, pinning Aether against the wall with his body. "Aren't you though? Who else gets under your skin like this? Who else makes you this angry, this desperate, this-" »

    Summary

When he’d fantasized about the day Ritsu finally got good enough to beat him in a fight, it featured more of what Shou can admit was his own example. Cracking concrete, fists meeting skin. Shou had expected Ritsu’s hands on him.

But that’s the thing: even though Shou knows exactly who he is, Ritsu never stops surprising him.

« Shou feels a little like one of Ritsu’s spoons right now, bent out of shape because of him. Ritsu stands over Shou with the sky behind him so bright it stings his eyes. He laughs. Shou can see a thread of red in the valley between his incisors. He must have cut the inside of his lip on his teeth when Shou knocked him down the hill.
[...] The blood in Ritsu’s teeth should be Shou’s, he thinks deliriously. »

« Shou’s voice comes out breathless. “I couldn’t negate your telekinesis because there wasn’t one thing to focus on. You were everywhere at once.” »
    /
« Shou aches. Every organ in his possession is poised to make a mad dash for freedom. It’s lucky, then, that Ritsu is so eager to wrap his powers around him—around them both—and keep him in one piece. »

    Summary

Sunday leaves the party car to the sound of raucous laughter. Game nights have been commonplace for as long as he’s accompanied the Express members on their journey, and like a destiny he has no power to resist, they’ve folded him into them with little trouble. It’s… nice, if not sometimes overwhelming. He’s not used to it.
He steps into the bathroom, closing the door behind him. It will be fine. He just needs a minute to compose himself.
“Maybe this would be easier if you’d stop acting like it’d kill you to relax every once in a while. Crack a joke or something.”

    Sunday takes a break.

    Bookmarker's Notes

« There’s a tension in Sunday’s jaw that he’d left the party car to relieve, not to make worse. “You think it’s that easy, don’t you.”

“It is that easy,” Wonweek insists. He steps closer, even though the distance between them is already nigh unbearable. “You’d know that too if you bothered to live a little.”

“I’m trying,” Sunday responds, and his voice doesn’t wobble because he won’t allow it to. »
