Tadashi gave a tentative smile. “It’s nice to meet you both.” He turned to the remaining player, who was still watching the match intently. As Tadashi opened his mouth to introduce himself, the boy spoke.
“If Tanaka spent half as much time on his serves as he did on maintaining his hair and ‘threatening aura,’ he might be able to aim a serve literally anywhere else than right at the libero. But no, Ryuu, by all means, tell me more about your razor settings and the time you spend running through dirt for your aesthetic.”

Hanta laughed, and grinned at him. “Well I’m glad that even if I’m so stupid that I still fail, at least I won’t have totally wasted your time!” He laughed good naturedly, but was cut off by Iida.
“Sero-kun,” he said, looking intently into Hanta’s eyes. “You are many things, as I have realized while spending time with you. Stupid, however, is not one of them.”
Hanta sat in the silence that followed, a silence that felt like it was teetering on some sort of precipice, waiting to fall into… something. Hanta wasn’t sure what. He stared at Iida’s eyes, compelling and intense, and inhaled suddenly as he felt his stomach do something funny.
He’s… really pretty, Hanta realized suddenly, unwilling to look away from Iida’s face. Oh shit. Oh no. Don’t do this, Hanta.

Charles laughs. “Tell that to my old teachers, mate.”
“If they disagree, then they can’t be very qualified.” Edwin says this simply, like it’s just a fact of life. Like it’s plainly obvious that if anyone thinks Charles is stupid, it’s they who are at fault.
Or: Charles grew up poor and is likely to stay that away, his job at the magic store notwithstanding. By the time he meets Edwin, he's decided that he wants a new life. In between figuring out what's up with the mysterious wish-granting pigeons, and whether he can go to the Royal Ball, Edwin makes him want to take a chance on being happy as well.
