Summary
The End, ironically, had met its end, and there were no more enemies left to conquer and no more great adventures left to undertake, and that was the case for a couple of days.
Days turned to weeks, weeks turned to months, and finally, months turned to years. Years with no action, tracks with no opponents, with Sonic running simply for the sake of it, while everyone took their own path.
And just as he’s about to make sure his paths converge with everyone else’s, so does something else wish to achieve that, an unholy threat gazing at him from beyond the veil.

The years since The End met its end were slow, too slow, so slow that when Sonic noticed, everyone had drifted away, finding their purposes, pursuing their dreams, and growing into better versions of themselves, all the while Eggman was almost missing.
There was peace, and peace was no time for adventure, except the one hidden deep within his heart. The dreadful, fearsome, and potentially legendary adventure of being honest with his feelings about a certain pink hedgehog.
But, there was someone else, something else, something watching. A monster lurking beyond the veil, driven with obsession, twisting itself into a cruel tasteless joke, yet filled with hunger.
Something else watched too, sensing the opportunity to shatter the peace to acquire what the world had denied it. To get what it deserved, no matter the price that had to be paid.
And between them, a nobody, but a nobody that was given the opportunity to bring the world to ashes on a silver platter.
As Sonic prepared to chase after his greatest adventure, he would find himself in a twisted nightmare.

He had succeded at last, succeded in bringing an end to mortal kind in an entire timeline. Nothing survived, nothing remained, not even their corpses, much less their homes and the ground they used to thread on.
The caveat is that it wasn't his doing, at least directly. For all his zeal, for all his pursuit of divine justice, he was punished for it, punished by the only one able to impose such justice. For creating a bleak universe, a dead universe, he was sentenced to be erased along with his creation.
However, he survived, barely, his immortality standing up to even such an absolute ability.
With a new chance given to him, he now must pursue a new path, a new justice, only then can a foolish god like him atone for his sins.
