Summary
Kaito stands there awkwardly, his hands feeling awfully empty now that Kokichi’s fingers are no longer intertwined with his. He looks around, taking a moment to take his surroundings in for the first time.
The ballroom seems to have no end. There are no walls, just the checkered floor stretching as far as the eye can see and the comforting glow of the moon above their heads, the night sky hanging low and scattered with thousands of stars, twinkling down at them.
They are mesmerizing.
Kaito draws in a shuddering breath, his fists uncurling as he lets himself stare at them, lets the deep, raw wound somewhere in his chest bleed. He’s spent his entire life chasing them, dreaming of reaching them and—
Before he could think better of it, Kaito reaches out.

Summary
"Hm…" Kokichi brought a finger up to his lips. "Alright, I'll hold you to it." Something about the tone of his voice suggested that he didn't believe him.
Kaito crossed his arms over his chest. "Hey, I'm a man of my word!"
Kokichi's eyes glinted in amusement. "We'll see about that."
[Season 53 is just around the corner and Kokichi has a bone to pick with the show. If only he'd stop being so fucking cryptic about it, Kaito might understand why.]

Summary
When he opened the door, Kaito expected to see a Kokichi who was a bit more vulnerable than usual, who would push past him and strut into the room like he owned the place, but mumble a barely audible “thank you” as he did so. He expected some absurd tale to explain why Kokichi couldn’t sleep in his own room, a disguise for the fact that loneliness brought his worst demons out to play. He expected playful insults and cuddling and tears the supreme leader would undoubtedly claim were fake.
What he got...was much, much worse.
