“George, why did Max Verstappen just take a sip of your drink?”
“I guess he was just thirsty? Sharing is caring, you know.”

Max Verstappen and George Russell are supposed to be rivals. More often than not, they looked like one step away from killing each other.
So why on earth did he just crash into George’s interview just to sip on his water bottle?

    Summary

It’s funny, really, how little they talk. What is there to talk about? They were completely different people back when all George’s face inspired in Max was annoyance, that hasn’t suddenly changed just because he’s a little fonder of him now.

When Max brings up video games or his plans to go play darts with friends, George hums along and pretends to care. Max can’t muster up the same pretense when George talks about padel or whatever gossip his girlfriends have fed him at brunch so instead he busies himself with tracing the shape of his lips with his eyes, imagining them swollen and wrapped around him.

More relationships would last longer if people just ignored each other’s personalities and focused on sex, Max thinks.

George and Max start dating, but Lando’s a little slow on the uptake.

or, a 5+1 about freshly dating russtappen through the eyes of resident british dumbass lando norris

The whole exchange lasts maybe five seconds, but it’s baffling enough that Lando forgets to move at all. It’s only when someone grabs him by the shoulder that he jolts back to himself.

“Mate, anthem’s starting.” Alex peers at him, brow creasing. “You good?”

“Aren’t George and Max still fighting?” Lando blurts.

It doesn’t happen all at once. Just a comment in the press pen. A hand on a shoulder. A silence that means something. Max keeps showing up. George keeps pretending not to notice. And somewhere along the way, it turns into something neither can ignore.
