Summary
Heart pounding in his ears, he took the first step into the chilly water. His boot, not waterproof, instantly soaked through. Another step in and he was already chilled to the bone. He chanced a glance back towards the house, and his heart stuttered when he saw the distant glow of what looked like a fire. Smoke lighter than the blackness of the sky was rising steadily into the air. Something was burning.
His heart jolted and he stuttered a couple more steps forward. Water sloshed around his ankles now, and waves pushed up to his knees. The water was frigid.
It was now or never. He waded out until he was chest deep, felt the constricting pinch of cold water as his bare arms dipped in, and then he began to swim.

Cut off from his family, his friends, and his home, Wei Ying vows to do everything he can to help save the trapped citizens of Qishan from their dictator president. With his childhood imagination and a radio, he communicates through the stories of a rogue cultivator trying to take down the evil Chief Cultivator and his fierce corpses.

She didn’t seem in a hurry to leave. “I’m Aerith, by the way,” she continued, extending a hand. “We… haven’t met before, right?” she asked when Cloud didn’t immediately shake it. “Oh, please tell me I didn’t forget who you are and introduced myself again.”
Cloud let out a snort. “No, no. I’m, uh, Cloud,” he said, gingerly shaking her hand.
“I know,” she said, nodding towards the name tag. “I don’t have one yet. So you’ll just have to remember my name for now.” She turned to the kids as Cloud furrowed his brows. “Hey, everyone! My name’s Aerith—I’ll be your guide, tonight! Why don’t we all introduce ourselves?”

An affirmative hum as he glances at the clock on the bedside table, just to check the time– half past 2 AM. Certainly not an hour for a casual conversation with the police department.
“We have someone here insisting that you’re his lawyer. A Mo Xuanyu.”
He is halfway off the bed when the words register, and they cause him to pause.
“Hey, let me talk to him! If he’s my lawyer, you have to let me talk to him!”
Lan Zhan’s blood runs cold. The voice is distant, muffled, and from its cadence, the speaker is clearly intoxicated. But Lan Zhan recognizes it all the same.

While searching for a missing teenage boy, Lan Zhan ends up finding a ghost from his past. Or rather, the ghost calls him up in the middle of the night.
