Kaveh sighs again, and this time his features knit together and he squeezes his eyes shut. “Can you stop being clinical for two minutes and hear what I’m actually asking you?”
“I am listening.” It’s true. “And I do understand.”
“Do you, now?”
“I do.”
Kaveh pinches the bridge of his nose. The frustration there isn’t feigned or overblown—it’s real, deep in the lines of his face and the tension drawing his shoulders. “I’d want you to be here,” he says again, but quieter.
“I will be here,” Alhaitham answers. “And it’ll be with the cure.”
When an expedition gone wrong leaves Kaveh with three days to live, Alhaitham and Cyno fight to find the cure while Tighnari fights to buy them time.

The rain immediately wet his entire body. His white shirt uncomfortably latches on him, but he pays them no mind. In one last faith, Kaveh turns around, hoping to see the figure of a gray-haired male chasing after him.
But of course, who is he kidding?.
Alhaitham waited for him until the sun rose and fell once again, but Kaveh never returned.

People keep coming up to Kaveh to congratulate him. Kaveh doesn’t really know why, and he’s a little too scared to ask at this point, so he heads back home, content if not a little bemused.
He is, unfortunately, reminded of it the very next day, when the door slams open and Al-Haitham stalks in. “Mind telling me why everyone was congratulating me today?” he demands. “About your pregnancy?"
Or: Al-Haitham is, without a doubt, the most annoying person Kaveh knows. Maybe the world’s second-most annoying person can help Kaveh figure him out.
