The night is warm and clear here. B’Elanna and Harry sit on the roof of their crashed shuttle and drink wine given to her by Kelis and gaze up at the bright and unfamiliar stars. They point out new constellations to each other, giggling as their fingers trace the outlines. An archer, a targ, leola root. They’re so lost, somehow even more lost than they were before, a matryoshka doll of disappearance. From the Alpha Quadrant and from Voyager. B’Elanna misses Voyager more than she ever missed the Alpha Quadrant, but as much as her heart yearns for home she can’t deny that there’s something nice about this. Like they’ve crash-landed into a fairytale.

Summary
They call it the miracle ship. Returned from the farthest depths of space seven years after its supposed destruction. The Federation touts it as a piece of propaganda - they’re in desperate need of it, after all - but nevertheless there are whispers. From the streets of Earth, of Kronos, of Bajor, all the way up to the highest offices of Starfleet itself, there are whispers. To survive in the Delta Quadrant meant they had to adapt, to change, to evolve until they’d become something alien, something feral. Like a dog that’s remembered what it’s like to be a wolf. The crew of the USS Voyager came back wrong.
