He and Agent May go off comms just a few hours into their surveillance, though, and Phil and Agent Ward, along with Sitwell's help, go in to rescue them. They don't need much help, though, but Ward might need a little help understanding how Phil and Clint work in the field. He figures it out.

Tony, Steve, Clint and Bruce spend quality time together in a cave. Tony does not build another arc reactor (even if he sort of needs one). Steve is all Protective Leader. Clint is terrifyingly good with a knife. Bruce bleeds and snarks. There is banter and embarassing amounts of schmoop and the boys get very touchy-feely.

While Coulson's recovering from being stabbed in the chest by a magical spear, Fury is rapidly running out of Agents willing to play babysitter for the newly founded Avengers. So he calls in Captain John Watson, late of the British Royal Army, and blogger and best friend to the infamously antisocial (presumably deceased) Sherlock Holmes. In hindsight he's not sure if this was a good call or a very, very bad one.
Post-Reichenbach-reunion combined with Coulson-lives, partly because I like looking at cliches from different fandoms, sticking them in one fic and going "now kiss!". Mostly because has anyone else noticed how similar John Watson and Phil Coulson are?
