Summary
Steven braves his way out and holds his hands, rubbing at his knuckles. “You don’t have to bear all your burdens alone. I don’t like this, either. This cruel fate we have all been born into; alpha, omega, beta… be classified into one of these and it molds your entire life.” He takes a deep breath. “But young master, if we were to defy fate, a singular man does not make a village. It takes a village to make a man. You don’t have to be alone. I’m here. Use me.”
A dry laugh comes out of Shuaibo’s mouth. More tears come out of his eyes. “Do I have a choice?”
We can’t afford to, Steven thinks, but it is not what Shuaibo deserves. This wretched life is not what he deserves. This burned reality is not what he should be living.
Or: Steven had just lost everything, and Shuaibo cannot be the one to pick up the pieces.

Even partially obscured, it was easy to make out the figure within. Broad and relaxed, a younger Varka stared back from the paper. His smile was wide and his stance light-hearted, as if the moment had been captured by a dear friend.

“Can you have a child with Uncle Flins?”
For a little while, sound reached him as if through layers of wool, and the only thing he could feel was akin to a blade piercing through his chest. Something in him folded inward, the same instinctive reflex he felt when he put out his light that one time, long ago. He did not move. Did not think. Did not speak.
Varka laughed again, too fast and too loud, a tone that went against all the natural laws of sound.
“That’s impossible,” Varka fixed the hat on Klee’s head, looking just as sad as she did. “Sorry, little spark.”
Varka invites Flins to the Windblume Festival without telling him that the festival is the most notorious courting ground in Mondstadt. Somehow, everyone already knows what they are to each other—except them.
