“is that a cartoon?” Heeseung answers honestly
“No. The ice prince is the best jewerly thief in the world. I’m in charge of catching him. And I will.” There was determination in his eyes
“ok, detective Yang. Good luck. I don’t even know the guy, how can I be your informant?”
“do you know the famous actor Evan Lee?”
“yeah” Heeseung sighs “yeah I know, I look a lot like him, people tell me all the time, I dont really see it though”
“Evan Lee was found dead in his house two hours ago while you were drunk fighting people on the street” the detective deadpans
“hey I wasn't drunk I was barely tipsy…wait what?”

Heeseung thinks the worse that can happen to him is being arrested for public disturbance after a stupid bar fight, then a hasty young detective see his resemblance to a stupid actor that just got himself murdered like his ticket to catch a famous robber and Heeseung gets thrown into a fancy life that isn't his, trying to fix the broken relationships and unfinished business of all the darks secrets Evan Lee had hiding in his closet, with only the motivation of a vague reward and of course, not dying.

The pressure of being single during the holidays might be a little too much so Sunoo and Sunghoon get their friends to find them a handsome plus-one to impress family and friends with and pretend to be the perfect couple for a couple of weeks and then never talk again. No pressure, no disappointments, and no surprises. Right?

The note – travelled to them on Jake’s plate, but referring to someone with Jake, not Jake himself – was about Jungwon. That much was clear to him. What he didn’t know is who sent it, because Jake is trying to tell him, but his ears have suddenly started ringing. The cook, he sees Jake mouth, and then he’s slapping the note back onto the table like he was squashing a bug, sliding it over so Jake can read it and confirm that it said what he thought it did.
He’s blushing. He’s not sure he’s ever blushed in his life. Jungwon – by nature, but also by strict rule – doesn’t do that.

Summary
Jaeyun tilts his head a bit, looking suddenly almost puppy-like, cute and wide-eyed and innocent, and – this is bad. Very bad. Heeseung should probably retreat and start pushing his truck out of their driveway and continue on until he reaches the next state over, no matter how long it takes or how it will inevitably lead to him collapsing from exhaustion twenty minutes in.
At least he’d be somewhere that Jaeyun is not, and he’d surely be better off for it.
“I asked if you’re a new volunteer,” Jaeyun repeats, and even his voice is pretty, his accent strong and thick, with a slight lisp that Heeseung manages to find simultaneously endearing and enticing. “For the church?”
Or, when Heeseung’s truck breaks down outside of a pastor’s house in the midst of a cross-country road trip that was supposed to give him a fresh start, he meets Jake, who’s in desperate need of a ride to a fresh start of his own. It’s a match made in – well, not in heaven. But something close to it.

They’d never exchanged words beyond sorry, my son likes to talk and it’s okay, I do too, but then Hot Single Dad had given him a smile – all big teeth and crinkled eyes – and that was enough for him to become a regular cast member in Jake’s fantasies.
It wasn’t purely carnal desire, though. Jake genuinely felt an urge to get to know him – both of them, truthfully. Riki seems like a sweet kid, and his father seems nice, and he’d met so few people since he moved back to the city. Jake often finds himself wondering if he should call his grandmother for her banana bread recipe and knock on their door with a fresh batch in hand and see if they were interested in getting to know him, too.
He’s pretty sure there’s black mold in his walls – that’s what he tells himself to excuse the level of delusion he’s reached. He’s having black mold poisoning induced psychosis, but it’s fine, everything is fine.
Or, where Jake gets a glimpse of the kind of family he'd always wished for, and wonders if maybe, just maybe, they'd been wishing for him, too.

Both of Jungwon’s hands are on both sides of Jay’s head, planted firmly on the wall behind. “I wasn’t going to do this before but I’ve changed my mind: You’re eager to get that kiss so you won’t stress so much about it later, right? Jungwon’s willing to do this much for him? How could Jay not fall deeper?
