And what would Alhaitham think if he woke up to a thumb stroking his cheek so intimately? Kaveh would be kicked out by daylight. No, perhaps earlier than the break of dawn; he would have to roam the streets at night, nothing to keep except pure hot shame and cherished memories shattered a second time.
Alhaitham’s disappointment would be replayed over and over, a sin unable to be absolved.
Just as the conflict begins to subside, as Kaveh surrenders to shame and fear, a hand quickly takes hold of his wrist.
Kaveh startles, unable to do much else but endure the slow rise of Alhaitham’s eyelids as he rouses from sleep. He inhales sharply, holding his breath in anticipation.
“...Kaveh,” Alhaitham rasps, “what are you trying to do to me?”
They have, of course, shared a bed at varying points in their lives. Thus, Kaveh has no logical reason to be freaking out over something so trivial. He has, however, plenty of emotionally-driven excuses to spare.
or: Kaveh hasn’t slept in the same bed with Alhaitham for years. Much has changed since then.

Kaveh lifts a brow. “What?”
Isn’t that the point of drinking coffee? Tasting it? He knows some folks consume it for the alertness it brings them, but he and Alhaitham had always been connoisseurs of complex blends and—
“I can taste you.”
Suddenly, the room feels hotter than the desert.
Or, Kaveh accidentally starts scenting Alhaitham's coffee each morning, which spirals into something quite different that may finally force them to confront the growing something between them.

Kaveh sucks in a deep breath. “You don’t understand, Al-Haitham, I—”
“Marry me instead,” Al-Haitham says.
In which Al-Haitham is the rich and polished bachelor of the town, Kaveh is an architect down on his luck, and all Al-Haitham wants is to make Kaveh his friend.
