Summary
Jess held Lupe close, tried not to let their thoughts circle back to worries of impracticality and risk and overindulgence, pushed away nagging concerns to just appreciate. Maybe that was why they didn’t fully register the intensity of the warmth of their bed, of the heat radiating from Lupe’s skin. Definitely that was why they brushed it off and just pulled the quilt tighter around them when Lupe’s teeth chattered, despite their cocoon of shared body heat.
Looking back, Jess cursed themself for not knowing something was wrong, but in that moment, they had Lupe’s body curled into theirs, Lupe’s face in the crook of their neck, Lupe’s support and companionship in this unforeseen but so treasured trip to Jess’s home. Their headspace was too hazy, too blissful and rose-colored for alarm bells.
