She threads their fingers together as she reaches for her suitcase. Conrad’s faster, and their hands brush just for a moment, her fingertips sweeping over his knuckles, a spark zipping up Belly’s arm just from that brush of contact.
Nice try, his smirk says, as he rolls her pale blue carry-on beside him.
It’s been all of two minutes and he’s already smirking? What’s she supposed to do, not picture everywhere she wants that smirk lingering against her skin like a tattoo?
(A few months after Conrad leaves Paris, Belly books a spontaneous flight to California because she misses her boyfriend.)

At the sight of freckled cheekbones and amber eyes, Charlie is suddenly transported back to over a decade prior. To the first meeting of a boy with a kind smile and sweet disposition in his form.
“Hi,” Charlie had said as he took his newly assigned seat.
“Hi,” the boy said back, a wary look almost passing his features before it quickly transformed into a polite grin.
Charlie never forgot the butterflies that swarmed his stomach that day.
Those same butterflies come storming back now so fiercely that he nearly keels over from the nausea of it. The jolt of panic, fear, and a little bit of something else that he can’t quite name, hitting him all at once.
Nicholas Nelson, the first boy Charlie ever loved, is standing in his bookshop.
