Summary
Steve retires without going back in time, moves into a house across the lake from Tony’s (who faked his death), and is set up on a few dates. Somehow, the old and new Avengers become Steve’s personal dating counselors, and the real adventure was the lesbians they met along the way.
“I think I’ve been in love with my best friend since middle school.”
“Oh?” Steve turned to face him. Peter nodded, taking off the mask.
“MJ. Except I was too busy crushing on the most popular girl in school for like four years, but then it turned out her dad was a supervillain, so that kind of killed it…”
“Ah,” Steve said, as if this was the most normal circumstance in the world. “So now you’re in love with your best friend.”
“But that’s the thing. I think I’ve been in love with her this whole time.”
“How do you not know if you’ve… been in love with somebody… for years?” asked Steve, though the voice in the back of his head was screaming at him, You know damn well how, you idiot.

Summary
It all starts with Steve gets his medical marijuana prescription at fifteen years old.
The whole thing sounds ridiculous to Bucky, quite frankly, who thinks that someone with asthma smoking makes as much sense as a diabetic eating a pound of candy. But apparently, his best friend insists in his usual mulish way, it actually helps with the asthma and half of the other things on Steve's laundry list of ailments.
Bucky continues to push his point for another few days, because it's common fucking sense, for crying out loud. Most of it's just to hide the fact that he's a little scared shitless of drugs, having been the pristine, slightly nerdy one throughout elementary and middle school. Everyone knows that Steve is the troublemaker, and the mere idea of Steve doing pot makes Bucky and his morals deeply uncomfortable.
Until he Googles it, in a moment of weakness. It turns out Steve was right about the marijuana. Huh.
That and Bucky Barnes has a crippling weakness for everything about Steve Rogers, but it takes another few years for Bucky to figure that part out.

Summary
Inspired by kayaczek's beautiful artwork of Wanda using her powers to heal Bucky's mind.
“You tell me if this hurts and we stop, yes?” She’s said that three times now, and fear buoys the question. Bucky’s not sure who Wanda’s more afraid of in this situation. It should be him, all things considered.
It’d be the understatement of the century to say he doesn’t react well to the poking and prodding of his mind… but Wanda doesn’t know that yet. The skittering feeling melts into tension dripping down his back.
He nods, bracing himself. She places a cold hand on his flesh shoulder.
“The Wakandan doctors said they’ve found a way to clear the codes from your mind,” Steve said carefully to his lap, as if the words would shatter into false hope if he spoke too fast. “But it won’t be quick or easy.”
“Gee, Steve,” Bucky rolled his eyes, “You would’a think I’ve learned a little patience by now.”

Summary
He doesn’t notice that one of her shoes is untied until a lace gets caught in a notch of a log as they pass, sending her down hard.
The momentum of her fall sends him thudding against a tree, and his eyes slam shut as he grits his teeth against the white hot pain that flares in his side.
When he opens his eyes, she’s facedown in the snow, still and silent, hands still at her sides making it clear that she didn’t even try to catch herself.
It speaks of so much trauma, so much unresponsiveness, that he feels tears sting his eyes at the sheer scale of what’s happened to her, of how small and useless he is to fix any of it, of how much he’s let her be hurt by his own failure to protect her.
But there’s no time for his own self-loathing.
She needs him, insufficient as he is.

Marc says it to his hands more than to her, clasped in a white-knuckled knot between his knees. He is a gargoyle perched on the edge of his bed, hunched and rigid - a half dozen available seats scattered around the London flat, and he chooses the only one with a shackle.
She sits straight-backed in her own, hands neatly folded in her lap, running shoes on her feet. Mirror images inverted, she thinks, and it's almost funny.
"Well," says Layla Abdallah El-Faouly, Avatar of Taweret, aide to the Mistress of the Horizon, and Marc Spector's wife, pending two signatures on the piece of paper they still haven't talked about. "That sounds rather a lot like a 'you' problem."
(They've never been good at talking about the real things. This time, with a little help, they try.)
