Summary
She wants things, and you give her nothing, and no matter how much she says she cares about you, there's only one way that can ever end. If you had even a molecule of honor, you'd end things yourself. But that's hard to do, and you don't do hard things.
This is why you suck.

We are both lesbians. We’re at a bar. You’re smooth and confident. You see me and think I’m cute, and you decide to strike up a conversation.
——
We are both girls. We’re in the same class in high school. We’ve been friends for a long time. We’re messaging each other on a school night after finishing our homework.
——
You’re my best friend and you’ve known me for a long time. You care about me and want what’s best for me. I just told you that I think I might be a trans woman. You want to help me calm down because I’m panicking just a little bit.

Summary
In the third year, the signal was sent out and the shelters were opened.
The world looked just like you remembered it. The sun shone so brightly that it felt like your eyes were burning. You were surrounded by the same buildings, tall and white and stained by pollution.
The world looked nothing like you remembered it. The streets were vacant, empty of the sound of trucks that had been with you since you were a girl. The air was empty, too, and you couldn’t hear a single bird.

Summary

Summary
“What are you doing?”
“Lying on the floor,” you say.
She laughs. “Ok, but like. Why?”
“Because that’s where I am.”
“You’re funny.”
You should probably feel excited or nervous or something. Instead, the gaping hole where your chest should be just swirls on, oblivious.

Summary
You take stock of the situation with the ship's help. You're alive. The ship is alive. Everyone else is dead, everything forward of the dormitory gutted and venting into space. The reactor is intact, but the engines are, to use the ship's surprisingly colorful vocabulary, "fucked." You're in a wide elliptical Jovian orbit, with no delta-V, flanked by the burnt-out husks of two other frigates. It would be a hopelessly expensive rescue mission, not that anyone on Europa would be inclined to rescue you under the circumstances even if they did somehow know there were any survivors.
“In other words,” the ship says, “this ends with both of us dying, there’s no way around it. The only question is - when do you want to go, and how?”

Summary
Your suit is screaming at you, and you can't make it stop.
There's a wall of diagnostics. Left arm: no data. Hydraulic fluid levels 87%. Primary optical sensors occluded. Left arm: no data. Pilot core breached. Hydraulic fluid levels 84%. Left arm: no data.
Also, your entire left side is one undifferentiated wall of pain.
It's eating away at your senses, blending them into a single roaring mass of white static. Standing still is intolerable. So is moving. You're trying to do both. You're failing.

Summary
You’ve been stagnating for years now. It’s the price of adulthood, you figure. A boring job with dull, reliable coworkers doesn’t carry any of the thrill or camaraderie of college, but it pays the bills. You could probably work here forever if you wanted. Not as a manager - god, that would be awful - but you’re very comfortable at your desk and you have no intention of moving.
You don’t even notice it at first. You were never really one for bright colors - yellow, especially, has always been too harsh for you - so nothing in your life seems all that different. But eventually, you’re forced to admit that all of the yellow in the world has washed out into a uniform, featureless white.

Summary
I spent weeks in that goddamned hospital waiting for you to die.
You were lucid still for the first few days. Angry, mostly. Angry at the doctors for being incompetent, angry at the nurses for being rude, angry at me for not doing anything to fix it.
I know how much you hated hearing this, but I didn’t blame you. I still don’t.

Summary
Stopping was probably a mistake, but in your defense: she was cute, and she looked desperate. The threat of a thunderstorm hung heavy in the evening air. It was going to get nasty out there before much longer.
You leaned over to unlatch the passenger door, and she practically sprinted to your car. "Oh my god, I thought I was never going to get a ride. You're an angel, seriously."
You were decidedly not an angel, but you let that slide. Instead, you asked: "Where're you headed?"

Summary
This was odd, you thought to yourself as the teacher called on someone for the opening prayer. There was no reason for you to be - nervous? jealous? whatever this was - about a boy sitting next to a girl you’d just met, just because you thought he might be her boyfriend.
That must be it, you decided. The prophets had taught you not to go on dates until you were 16, and not to steady date until you were ready to think about marriage. If she had a boyfriend, she wasn’t following the prophets, and not following the prophets was a sin.
You didn’t want her to sin.

You try to focus on your computer, but the TV won’t shut the fuck up. It’s some cop bullshit, or maybe FBI, and it’s bathing the room in blue because everything is fucking blue now.
It’s her apartment too, she can watch whatever she wants to watch. You’re not going to complain. Not out loud, anyway. You can at least do that much for her.

Summary
“Oh no…” She squeezes you again. “Babe. Girl. Don’t talk about yourself like that. You know it’s not true.”
But it feels true, you tell her. You’re not a man’s body with a woman stuck inside. You’re a man’s body with a man stuck inside.
You can change the body, but you’re still going to be you.

Summary
The first time she asks if it’s going to be ok, you tell her of course it will.
You believe it at first, you really do. But the explosions get closer, and your reassurances more hollow.
She hasn’t asked you in more than a week.
