As snow coats the world around him for the first time since he awoke, the boy who used to be Touya stands under a cold grey sky and holds his hands out. He watches the flakes melt as they touch his palms.
In the bleary white, he sees Fuyumi and Natsuo and Shouto and their mother. He sees Fuyumi’s hair falling through his fingers and he sees the sharp grey of Natsuo’s eyes and he sees the frost that spiderwebbed across Shouto’s face when his quirk manifested and he sees their mother’s weary fingers reaching out for him.
He wonders how long it will take to forget them.

“Only if I’m with you," Kirara says. Her forehead burns where his mouth was. She wants him to kiss her again. She wants him to kiss her mouth, see if they fit together like puzzle pieces, if their lips lock as gently as their hands do. “I’m good if I’m with you.”
“Kirara,” he frowns, his hands clench on her waist, “you need to–”
“No," she cuts him off. She settles herself firmly on her feet, keeps her eyes on his face. “Don’t you fucking dare tell me what I need to do, Kin. Not you.”
He looks at her.
She doesn’t lower her gaze. He has been part of teaching her to be brave, yes, but she has taught herself. She relied on herself before she met Kinji and she knows what her gut says. She knows where she needs to be. Where she wants to be. She stands firmly on her own two feet. She looks at him, meets his gaze head on.
“I’m going with you," she says, no room for argument.
