Relief washed over him. Maybe it was selfish or stupid of him, but he didn’t want to be separated from Kunigami, his Kunigami. Hearing Reo’s name get called by Team White felt like a weight was being lifted off his shoulders. Losing had been bad enough, but what if Isagi and the others had chosen him instead? That would’ve been too much for Chigiri to take.
Or: In another world, Chigiri Hyoma isn't picked by Team White and gets to stay with his beloved Kunigami Rensuke.

“You must be some sort of genius! You’re destined to be a knight,” In awe, Hyoma took the boy’s hands and shook it with vigorous eager. “What’s your name? I’m Hyoma!!”
“W-What are you saying?” The boy, confused, asked weakly.
“You must be a hero! My hero!” With a bright smile, Hyoma exclaimed, his pinkish red eyes shining with awe and inspiration and some sort of a want. He wants this boy. He wants him!
“Do you mean it?” This time, the boy beamed. Hyoma nodded. “You think I’m a hero?”
“No no no, not think, I know you’re a hero!” He paused, before coughing into his fist and correcting, “My hero!”
or; Prince Hyoma gets saved by and befriends a peasant commoner, Rensuke, and the young prince decides that his hero has potential to be a knight. However, fate has plans for them, whether they like it or not.

“You like Kunigami, right?”
Reo watches as Chigiri almost chokes on a noodle. After a few coughs and deep inhales, Chigiri sends Reo an incredulous look.
”Where did you get that from?”
Reo shrugs. “It was a bit obvious. Right?”
Nagi nods next to him.
Chigiri squints at them. “You’ve never even seen us interact.” He pauses. “You haven’t even seen Kunigami before, have you?”
”…no,” Reo’s forced to admit. “But I have a sense for these things, you know?”
“You really don’t,” Chigiri mutters.
Nagi opens his mouth. Reo feeds him another sausage while frowning at Chigiri.
