Some are in straight, almost neat lines, one right after the other, while some of them crisscross each other with a jagged ferocity. Overall, there’s more raised masses of tissue than unmarked skin. There’s no need to ask what caused them, and there’s no way Collie ever would. It’s obvious.

    But it didn’t feel like a memory. It looked so real. He was there.

    Then, the guards barked their orders. The Major gave his speech. And the Walk began, exactly like it did before.
