   Hi back to write a better note to this bookmark...

   This fic takes over my brain an unhealthy amount. It's a comfort fic, it's also just overwhelmingly beautiful and emotional. Might just be one of my favorite fics on this whole site and that's not an exaggeration. Elements of this fic have changed how I look at fluff and romance forever and I LOVE how quirky and realistic this fic was, I absolutely LOVE when I can hear the characters possessing the narrator.

   I don't think I'll ever be normal about this fic. Like, ever. Pali you are INSANE for gifting me this like I owe you a million dollars because how is something this beautiful for ME? Actually drives me insane whenever I think about it, I wish I could experience this for the first time again holy shit.

   Still screaming at you for going "haha this was an attempt to write a fic for you" ATTEMPT??? This is everything I could've wanted from a fic and more, never stop writing ever <3 This rewired my brain chemistry and my understanding of love and affection btw never call it an attempt again daggers are being DRAWN /ref

   Literally will reference this fic infinitely, my future girlfriend could confess their love to me and I'd go, "aww, I love you too" and then go "omg pause that's a fanfic reference" before we could kiss I love being a normal functioning member of society that also touches grass and also is definitely not emotionally attached to fanfic what haha why would you even say I'm not what is wrong with you

   Summary

   He pauses, as if he needs to think over the words carefully.

   “—We don’t need to talk about what happened, because nothing happened.”

   Chase stares breathlessly, each word a slap on his skin, an ache that nestles itself deep. Nothing happened. Buddy says it so matter-of-fact, like he’s decided on a truth that Chase has no say in. The hurt turns sharp, the thorns pricking his blood until it quells into a pointed rage, clawing its way up Chase’s throat.

   “You kissed me, Buddy,” Chase whispers, but it lands like a slap, from how Buddy’s eyes, so blue and dark, widen.

   Buddy looks away, refusing to make eye contact, “We were in dire circumstances.”

   “You— why are you—,” Chase sputters, desperate to try and make sense of it. Sense of how Buddy could kiss him so gently, hands holding him like he was a delicate thing, ask to be his hero and then suddenly act like it meant nothing. He clenches his fists, fingernails leaving marks in his palms.

   “You kissed me like—Like you wanted to.”

   Or: Chase fumbles his way through asking Buddy to watch the fireworks with him. Nothing more, nothing less. Somehow, Buddy agrees.

   Buddy hates it. He hates how easily Chase mellows out, how quickly he forgives even if he says he won’t, and how easily he gets comfortable with Buddy being around him.
   How easily he trusts.
   And he outright despises how easily Chase can rope him into it as well. These days it’s so easy for Buddy’s cheeks to heat up from a mere touch; it’s so simple to accept the stupid chocolate; it’s ridiculously effortless to forget himself - to drop from the pedestal of a wine-sipping Villainess and turn into a kid who can barely legally drink.
   He hates it all. What he hates even more is how quickly Ex Libris can remind him it’s nothing but an illusion.
